Since I travel a fair amount with my own grandkids, I'm very sensitive to how the other passengers react. IMHO there seems to be cultural differences in how people treat children. I'm usually pretty mellow with other people's children; turn-about, you know.

Carole, same as you: often I believe parents make their chilfren noisy by forcing them to "make a nappy". So I try diplomatically to make a change. Recently making a to-and-fro trip with the Very Fast Train in France, on both trips I encouraged two mothers to let theirs babies play together. They were much quieter this way. Actually, I always used to let my my own three kids wander about on the train. They had fun with all the passengers! They were so natural and good hearted.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33308540.post-46250539347771656002007-05-04T00:20:00.000+10:002007-05-04T00:20:00.000+10:00Perhaps we meet nice people on these long flights....Perhaps we meet nice people on these long flights. It's the parents I have issues with. If the parents are friendly and nice to their kids, I'm happy to be near them and perhaps even help, if possible. If the parents are loud and crabby and constantly nitpicking at their kids, I feel very annoyed and very sorry for the children.Carol E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02741550863747328734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33308540.post-83411739883424229262007-05-03T22:12:00.000+10:002007-05-03T22:12:00.000+10:00i had an old portugese widow get on at lisbon on m...i had an old portugese widow get on at lisbon on my way to SA once. she had never flown before and was petrified, and was doing the rosary and reciting hail marys. i had to move!! lovely pic nathalie
It reflects very well the kind of mixed feelings you may have in such a situation.

In any case, when looking at what is shown on your wonderful photo, I would then feel ashamed about these mixed feelings. I'm always impressed by the kind of natural wish to be friends that you can find between babies and young children.
