Hiccup

1st August: I had enrolled to participate in the City Daily Photo Breakfast theme day, but I have a problem accessing my photos (on a different computer). Sorry, there will be no breakfast from me today. I suggest you visit Sally's blog for a typical (or atypical?) Aussie breakfast and to see what's cooking around the world, click on the following city links (don't forget time zones will mean breakfast appears at various times throughout your day).

Sydney reds, many plus one !

What is red in Sydney? The logos of the Sun Herald, Streets ice-cream, Opera Australia and the blood bank's Red Cross. The firemen's truck, the maple leaves in autumn and the row boats available for rent on Lane Cove river. Red again are several murals I found along my many walks around the city, and this ad for the monorail - gateway to Chinatown. Red and blue is the beautiful Crimson Rosella often seen in Sydney's suburbs...

/ And as a bonus photo, red is this free spirit escaping from its cage...

A city not my own

A little known aspect of Sydney's waterfront? Mmm, what do you think?
First of May: with this month's theme "a city other than your own", city daily photo bloggers are playing a huge game of musical chairs, isn't that fun? So where are we here? One clue will suffice: my shot was taken from the first floor of the Eiffel tower.
But the theme is twisted for me: Sydney isn't MY city anyway. After six years here, I'm still a foreigner and not even close to getting the permanent visa that would make me a local. So - which city could I call my own? I'd be hard pressed to answer that one. Paris, above ? I was born and raised there, apart from three years in Singapore, but since the age of 21 only ever came back as a tourist. I've lived for a year in Costa Rica, six years in Tahiti, ten years in Avignon in Provence and now six years in Sydney. While I think fondly of each of these places, is there one I could call mine? Not sure. Sometimes I find this frightening, sometimes I think I'm just a true citizen of the world...
But no time to be sentimental, we're off around the world: 75 cities are participating, see list below. Enjoy!

Dusty pink is out, hot pink is in

November 1st Theme Day : 'Something that is about to disappear'
This old fibro cottage is doomed, it will soon be sold and knocked down. Cottages like this one used to be everywhere along the coast; today, only a few remain. In the hands of greedy developers, they are being replaced by apartment blocks or townhouses leaving no space for the good old backyard. Below is an idea of what is 'in': wooden decks, brightly coloured feature walls and a Balinese touch. Wanna bet that the little girl who lives here dresses in the same hot pink as her bike and front porch?
