Last reflections

August 2007 - almost a year since I started this blog and it will soon be time to say goodbye. I am leaving Sydney. On my last walk around town, I found many reflections - again.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, in a modern facade...

The Museum of Contemporary art (the golden building in the background) combined with an Aboriginal painting displayed in the window of a gallery on Circular Quay.

Taken from the train on the North Shore Line, trees in the suburb of Pymble combined with the message "I love Blake" scribbled on the window... Do you find these images too bizarre or do they speak to you? (none of them are the result of post-processing, the special effects only come from the way I took the photos)

After the party

Reflections again, one of my treasures. Walking alone in the historic quarter of the Rocks before dawn. The sun hasn't hit the street yet. The beautiful lanterns of a waterfront restaurant, which have remained turned on all night, dangle onto the brick facade across the empty street. I am the only witness.

Come with me to a place I love

For the first time today I am participating in a theme day organised by French expatriates on the 15th of each month. Today's theme is 'take us to a place you love'. My first thoughts were for the Sydney Opera House or the glorious beaches. Of course. But I hate the obvious and the predictable. So instead I'll take you to my secret hiding place : the land of reflections. This place is both easy and hard to find; it can be anywhere but it moves all the time and you need to have 'the eye' to see it. This photo goes back to one of the days when the precious land opened up to me: a Chinese dress in a shop window of Chinatown turned out topped with this extraordinary bell tower from the Trades Hall across the street. I walked by this shop several times since; never had such luck again...

Just give me a puddle

Walking down George Street at 7:30 am I come across some water seeping onto the pavement from a fire hydrant. The waiter from the nearby café, which is just opening, places a "caution wet floor" sign over it. I notice the sun hitting a building across the street and start playing with the reflection. I'm so easy to please really: just give me a puddle to play in and I'm happy as a lark! The building is the Quay West Suites Sydney (121 one and two bedroom suites and executive penthouses all with five-star services and facilities, their website says).
