Last reflections

August 2007 - almost a year since I started this blog and it will soon be time to say goodbye. I am leaving Sydney. On my last walk around town, I found many reflections - again.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge, in a modern facade...

The Museum of Contemporary art (the golden building in the background) combined with an Aboriginal painting displayed in the window of a gallery on Circular Quay.

Taken from the train on the North Shore Line, trees in the suburb of Pymble combined with the message "I love Blake" scribbled on the window... Do you find these images too bizarre or do they speak to you? (none of them are the result of post-processing, the special effects only come from the way I took the photos)

---------------

On a personal note, thanks to all of you for your friendship and support over this year of blogging. Your kind and interesting comments have made Sydney Daily Snap a delight for me!

I think they are all equally fascinating, and they are all different. One of the things I like about photography is the ability to "find" images like these. When we create artworks like collages or manipulated photographs we often combine images to make points (irony, comparison) and it seems to me that we can often find them in real life. This to me adds an extra dimension to them. Of course if we were to discuss this theoretically the nasty element of "truth" creeps in, and whether it matters that the scene existed in real life or only in the creators imagination etc etc. This is one of the reasons why analogue photography may yet have a second (third) life. Although you can tamper with negatives, it's very difficult to do this unobtrusively. You can of course take analogue photos of digitally manipulated images..... getting a bit off-track here, but the comment about post processing started my brain churning as usual

tu vas quitter Sydney pour aller ou???

petite explications...

a prestu è amicizia...

A nice finish!

I wish you all the best for your settlement in Avignon, which clearly is not the worst of places and from where I have already and previously explained that I have some very good and personal memories!

I trust that you will soon be blogging again, but I understand perfectly your wish to maybe avoid the daily blogging aspect (and I can also understand the Corsican remarks above)! Blogging must reamin a pleasure and not a pressure (I guess I also said this before)!

I will watch out on this blog and see when hopefully something new is happening. In the meantime, sincere thanks for what you have done with this blog and also for all kind of good remarks and support I got from you when I started blogging!

Nathalie your words touched me because I think to be able to read a bit of sadness. Always leaving a plce where we lived for a while good or not, it's sad.

At the other side Avignon and "your" land will give you a new exciting life.

I really really hope to read you soon and in the meantime: grazie e buona fortuna. With love. Fabrizio.

we didn't want to hear this, yet your artistry will soar in cyberspace for evermore! It could be dull without the challenge of stark unrelenting sunlight or hectares of glass...
BTW I posted a reflection vaguely 'in the style of Nathalie'. Bon voyage, will watch cdp for more if I'm still surfing!

So you're moving and leaving Sydney; you may have some mixed feelings, but I think I would be very sad to move from such a beautiful town... Anyhow, Avignon is not a nice place to live, the Festival is perfect and the beauty of Provence is just around the corner! I'm jealous: of Sydney and of Provence!!!

will miss your photos and your thoughts on Sydney and the central coast - hopefully you will start your new blog soon - good luck and happy travels Nathalie xxx

Sorry Nathalie, there is an added "not" in my comment that makes a huge difference: Avignon is a nice place to live!

Sorry to see you leave Sydney. As a Sydney sider, you have shown me much of the city that I had not noticed before so thank you for bringing a different side of the city to light.

Please stay in touch with the Daily Blog community and can I request that you reconsider your decision and give us some pictures of Avignon - even if not on a daily basis.

Best wishes in your new endeavours.

Nathalie, you've done Sydney very proud the way you've shown the city and its beauty, culture, art, history, just lovely. I will miss seeing Sydney through your lens a lot. It's been a treat meeting you here, and you can be sure I'll stick to you like glue when you start up a new site. As rauf said, I come for the pictures, not just for Sydney. You have a beautiful perspective on life.

All the best wishes on your move and new setup in France. Please keep us posted.

A bientôt, donc.

Salut, Isabelle.

One can but hope, Nathalie, that like the Popes' sojourn in Avignon, yours is but a temporary residence thjere before returning. Not, mind you, that I'd hope your residence was as long as the Papal exile turned out to be.

Anonymous said...

Nathalie, you will be missed so much! At least you will be closer to your daughters and I'm sure that Avignon will be more than delighted to have you as resident. Will keep an eye out on this blog to see if you can update us occasionally on how you are.
Very best wishes et bon voyage ... I will always think of you whenever I hear the song "Sur le pont d'Avignon" ... xxxoooxxx

Goodness! I just read that you will be leaving Sydney. I've so enjoyed seeing Sydney through your eyes, a French girl's eyes. You will indeed me missed.

And Avignon eh? The most wonderful city. A blog from Avignon would be wonderful - imagine all those wonderful photos from Avignon but also the Luberon and the Cevennes. Such a beautiful part of France.

Won't allow me to log in on Google, so am having to print website --- sorry.

I wish you all the luck in the world. You won't me so far from me in Menton, Nathalie. It would be wonderful to meet up sometime.

Good luck - big hug!
