I found a piece of History set in stone and told on the exact spot of the event on the corner of Bayswater Road and Kellett Street. The suburb of Kings Cross remains a fairly rough one today. When I took this photo at dawn the other day, the only living beings around were a few red-eyed junkies finishing off a wild night and half a dozen seagulls as feral as the rival gangs mentioned here.

J'ai trouvé la mémoire d'un moment de l'Histoire gravée au sol sur le lieu même de l'évènement, au coin de Bayswater Road et Kellett Street. Aujourd'hui encore le quartier de Kings Cross a mauvaise réputation. Quand j'ai pris cette photo à l'aube l'autre jour, je n'y ai croisé que quelques junkies aux yeux rouges qui finissaient au radar une nuit allumée et une demi-douzaine de mouettes aussi agressives que les gangs rivaux mentionnés ici.

Art and philosophy in Leichhardt

Kites, flowers and dragonflies, subtle harmony of colours, murals rarely come with such naive charm and talent. It is located in Leichhardt, a suburb of mainly Italian immigration where the sense of community is very strong. There are several murals in this back street and I love the small sign that says 'Street art - 24 hours - please respect our walls". It seems to have worked as none of the paintings have been damaged or tagged over.

And what was I doing in Leichhardt ? Attending a Socrates Cafe, a philosophy discussion group. If you want to join us, it's once a month at the Berkelouw's bookshop cafe. Talking philosophy, is that something you would enjoy?

Liserons, cerfs-volants et libellules, subtile harmonie de couleurs, on voit rarement de peintures murales faisant preuve d'autant de charme, de fraîcheur et de talent. Nous sommes à Leichhardt, un quartier largement teinté d'immigration italienne où le sens de la communauté est très fort. Il y a plusieurs murs peints dans cette petite rue et j'adore le panneau "Art de rue - 24h/24 - Respectez nos murs SVP". Apparemment ça marche puisqu'aucun tag n'est venu abîmer les originaux. J'en suis ravie.
Et qu'est-ce que je faisais à Leichhardt ? J'allais à un café philo. Si vous voulez vous joindre à nous, c'est une fois par mois dans le café de la librairie Berkelouw's. Parler philo, vous aimez ça ?
