Back in December I dumped a few over-ripe tomatoes in my garden, in the gravel between the driveaway and the side fence. I had very little hope anything would come out of it: we are now at level 4 water restrictions, no watering allowed at all. Then we flew to France for a month, leaving the garden to fend for itself. When we came back, green tomatoes had spread on the ground. My dear husband managed to tutor the branches without breaking them and look: we'll have home-grown tomatoes for lunch today! No watering, no treatment, no maintenance. No wonder they call Australia the lucky country!
En décembre dernier j'ai balancé quelques tomates trop mûres dans les graviers le long de la clôture de notre jardin. Je n'avais guère d'espoir d'en tirer quelque chose : nous sommes en niveau 4 de restrictions d'eau, pas le droit d'arroser du tout. Puis nous sommes partis en France pendant un mois, en laissant le jardin vivre sa vie. Au retour, nous avons retrouvé des tomates vertes rampant partout. Mon cher et tendre a réussi à redresser les plants sur des tuteurs sans les casser et quelques semaines plus tard, voilà : nous mangerons à midi une salade de tomates du jardin ! Pas d'arrosage, pas de traitements, pas d'entretien. On comprend pourquoi on appelle l'Australie 'the lucky country' !
