On Wednesday nights the Art Gallery of NSW is open until 9 pm. It's called Art After Hours, I love it. Today I saw Artexpress, an exhibition of outstanding Visual Art works by High School Certificate students. This piece called A Thousand Birds For You is by Stephanie Nguyen (Bankstown Girls High School). In her own words :
"My work explores architecture through a form other than traditional buidling construction methods. My artmaking took the direction of working with white paper, folded and joined. I was drawn to the abstract shapes and forms of the 19th and 20th century architecture. The Sydney Opera House, with its organic and unusual shapes, was a strong source of inspiration. An old Japanese legend says that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes will be granted a wish. I was strongly influenced by this idea. In my origami pieces are memories, feelings, emotions, dedication and patience… all captured in each one of them. "

Cette pièce, MILLE OISEAUX POUR VOUS, est l'oeuvre de Stéphanie Nguyen, élève du lycée de filles de Bankstown. Les mots de l'artiste :

J'ai été attirée par les formes abstraites de l'architecture des XIXe et XXe siècles. L'Opéra de Sydney, avec ses lignes naturelles et fortes, a été une grande source d'inspiration. Il existe une vieille légende japonaise qui dit que celui qui plie mille oiseaux en papier verra son voeu se réaliser. J'ai été très influencée par cette idée. Dans mes pièces d'origami on trouve des souvenirs, des sentiments, des émotions, de la persévérance et de la patience... tous présents dans chacune d'entre elles.'
