Bondi - art is everywhere

There is so much to look at on Bondi beach: the golden sand, the waves so blue, the white bodies of exhilarated tourists, the tanned and fit bodies of the locals, the ongoing ballet of surfers, joggers, swimmers … but if you turn your back to the sea and walk right up to the cliff at the southern end of the beach, you will find places where the naked rock exposes itself with a candour that I find incredibly moving. Art is everywhere! But it is the artist who reveals it to the world.

When the famous Bondi delivers more than surf'n sand...

This rock pic still transpires sun and heat. You feel like it burns if you touch it.

And then you understand where the aboriginal colors are coming from... Don't need to be in the remote desert.

Yes, absoutely. The essence of Aboriginal art is all here!

Fortunately, the fad for plastic monstrosity "artwork" which once didfigured our coastline around Sydney is no longer being done by visiting artists. Old rocks are often much better than new "art".

Couldn't agree more with you, Norman. Some things that pass for art these days are an absolute farce but somehow no-one wants to say out loud that the king is naked, for fear of passing for a dumb redneck. The reality is that true talent and inspiration are rare - among Aboriginal artists and elsewhere.
That is not to say that 'Sunday painters' like myself shouldn't express themselves. I feel the creative urge in me to be incredibly strong, definitely one of the major drives in my life. I just wish I could bring out to the world all the beautiful things I have in my head...

That s a lovely post, Nathalie, and a beautiful sight to share with us out in the world.

I've heard artists suggest that art is meant to disturb, to shake up the mind, to challenge established thoughts. Maybe that's why we experience some art as montrous. Some art, however, probably doesn't really rise to the name "art".

My best to you.

Nathalie, merci de ta visite chez moi. J'ai eu l'occasion de passer quelques jours à Sydney en 2004 et je suis ravie de pouvoir y "revenir" par l'intermédiaire de tes photos! A bientôt.
