Australia's first vertical village

Right behind St Andrew's cathedral (in the foreground) a new building grows taller every day (on the left). It's called Residences Lumière and the name is aptly chosen: with floor to ceiling windows, the apartments will indeed be full of light (lumière means light in French). More images here . The architects of this 56-floor tall building claim it will be Australia's first vertical village. Vertical village... is that a lifestyle that appeals to you? Not to me!

that really makes me think of Manhattan, of the churches wedged between two buildings. me I like and there to live did not generate me (especially in Manhattan). and then the buildings with panes, Ca makes superb photographs with reflections. I find your photograph very beautiful. you already made a post on the cathedral St Andrew?

I don't buy the idea of 56 floors of a vertical village, but thanks god the cathedral and the trees are still there!

I have never been a real fan of high-rise living. I have always been overly concerned about how safety conscience my neighbors are, especially when it come to fire prevention. You know, leaving candles burning or smoking in bed.

There....I have tried to be polite and not use words like idiot or numbskull when referring to those type neighbors.

Not for me...but I guess it's the way of the future. I do worry that the quality of the high rise engulfing Sydney is SOOOOOOOO ugly though.

What's annoying me the most is the French flavour they had to give to the ensemble to make it more classy, stealing our "Lumière" (!).

Natalie, Interesting concept, but like others, I'm not interested.I think I prefer the village like the Blair Arcade of about four floors with condos above it that I've been posting photos of lately--the one you visited today (Thank you!!) I think your photo juxataposing the traditional with the modern is VERY interesting.

Some years ago, my mate Gino said if I ever want to shut up an Italian, one only needed to tie his hands behind his back. That's how I felt when Blogger didn't let me comment for a while... (*&^%^@%$#^$ Nathalie, it's almost weekend.

I never heard this term before. The lights are amazing in the full-glass rooms but I wouldnt consider this village-like:)

You know this almost looks like Trinity Church in Boston with the imposing buildings standing in the background - interesting photo

Nathalie: how interesting that Annie from Little Rock Daily Photo also posted a gothic church photo and it was St. Andrew Cathedral.

Edwin: you are on hot roller coaster my friend... will you ever come to América?
