We sell you an Aussie Christmas

Still on the theme of Christmas (not my fault if it comes so soon!), look at this week's issue of The Australian Women's Weekly: Cuddling a koala for Christmas, how cute and exotic! But there's more: this little girl is Bindi, daughter of Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter who died last September. Bindi, who is eight, co-hosted numerous TV shows with her father and is now a celebrity in her own right. Her first Christmas without her daddy, isn't that a story that will sell well? Do you think I'm being cynical? Yes dreadfully, but far less than the crocodiles who run these magazines. The other cover story is "Nicole Kidman's marriage crisis: I'm trying to stay positive". Nicole, a Sydney child, is also a fantastic front cover name in Australia. Add 150 fabulous gift ideas and a free Christmas Carols CD and you've got a perfect product. Good job.

Vous me trouvez cynique ?

I knew I had a soulmate elsewhere in the world. . .apparently she's in Sydney. Don't let the marketers get you too down. After all. . .it's summer there for Christmas, eh? ;-), so they can't spoil everything.

I once heard a marketer suggest that he could sell anything to anyone. I bet you might prove him wrong!!!

What is it that makes someone exploit something so private? Good commentary on the post. She is a lovely looking child, tho, isn't she, and that wouldn't hurt sales!

I felt terrible about his death. He was so popular here because he was such a character!

I guess the mother let her do it so maybe she just doesn't want him to be forgotten. And possibly good publicity for their organization?

Wow - I'm really glad I found your blog - or that you found mine. I loved that picture you posted for your dad - it is amazing. I really like your pictures - and Sydney is my favourite city in the world!
Talk to you soon.

Crass commercialism can take all the joy out of Christmas.
Great commentary on the magazine. I agree with everything the other bloggers said too.
