Manly today

Shelly beach, Manly, this afternoon 3:30 pm.
Weather report: Fine, sunny, water temperature 20°C (68°F), air temperature 22°C (72°F).
Surf report: "Very close to dead flat, with the occasional 1 foot set every now and then. Not really surfable at all". The surf has been small for weeks and the forecast isn't optimistic : "The outlook for early next week holds no chance of any significant improvement. Flat to tiny surf is anticipated to persist through to Wednesday/ Thursday".
There were still a number of surfers trying their luck on Manly's main beach but Shelly beach here is a protected cove offering much safer swimming conditions for families with young children.

Well, you will just have to work on that perpetual Sydney suntan.
It looks warm and peaceful, bad luck about the surf.

I guess you have to choose between clear water or surfing. The place really looks beautiful. Did you go bathing? Would you have preferred surfing?

Wonderful picture of beautiful Manly: I love the trip with the FastCat from Circular Quay.
Well, with such an Autumn who needs Spring? We had some rain here in Lisbon, which is entirely odd...

I guess it would be hard to surf on the flat but the water is so lovely and clear. Great shot of a pretty place.

This is the place for me and my two little ones. The water is so clear! Thanks for visiting me in San Diego - wish I had more time to visit everyone more regularly!

Wow, the water is sooo clear. I love that you can see the bottom of the sea. Brilliant.

Peter, no, I don't surf so I really don't care that there are no waves. But my son is a keen bodyboarder, so for him no waves is a tragedy ;-)

Felicia, glad you found the beach that is right for you. There are so many to choose from in Sydney

All, yes, what attracted me here is the clarity of the water!

All the above comments RE the lack of surf: Shelly beach is a sheltered inlet on the north-eastern edge of Sydney's North Head. In other words, it faces west ie faces the surf beach of Manly and South Steyne.

There is virtually always surf on these beaches.

How do I know this...

Because I live there.
