Wedding

Yesterday, 5 pm, on the jetty at Long Jetty. The weather was balmy, calm, beautiful - perfect day for a wedding. Do you remember your own wedding photos? Or if you're not married, how do you imagine them? For girls who are interested, the 'in' wedding gown here in Sydney has to be of the strapless bustier type. And planning for the 'big day' seems phenomenally important - more so than selecting the spouse or working on the marriage, say some.
b
BTW - today is the second round of the French presidential elections. The French will decide who they will be married to for the next five years... For us in Sydney, the result will be announced at 4 am on Monday.

I love the almost hidden bottle of beer at the bride's feet! A truly Australian wedding :)

You're right Julie! I had missed it! How many times have I seen bridesmaids drinking straight from the bottle behind wedding photos!

What a memorable location for a wedding!
Sadly, statistics show that couples put too much effort into their wedding day and not enough into their marriage...

Oh, what a beautiful photograph. The light is perfect.

Happy days to the couple involved - kindness to each other is what counts.

A great candid shot; I love it, bottle and all--looks more like water to me, tho.

I did not realize any bottle, I saw only very, very beautifully coloured photo.
A married couple and a president and his/her folk - loving or fighting or
loving and fighting :))

A beautiful photo - again!

Is an Australian marriage big "business"?

I like the idea of having a nice ceremony and a lot of people - and fun - together, but it seems here in France that you have to rent a castle, invite as many as possible (even people you hardly know), offer the best of eating and drinking, live music... and all your (possible) savings are gone. I beleive you could make it as nice in a simpler way. Your photo anyhow makes you wish you would have been around.

Yes, tonight at 20 hours we will wait for the results, or try to get them in advance via a foreign source. The outcome is generally known hours earlier, but cannot be announced in France before all voting offices are closed. If someone around would know in advance, you are welcome to send an e-mail...

Fascinating to read these comments...e.g. Peter..renting Chateaux etc.....there's the same strange phenomenon in Britain...huge wedding (perhaps, since many do not bother now) then big divorce....what's happening to our world?

France and UK are in many ways so different but in many others we are all "suffering" in the same way. What will the historians make of it?

Can't promise to stay up for counting! (Lol)

The big wedding that costs mega-bucks is all the rage. But it costs the families geetting married. The ones I hate are the new rage: everyone, guests included, is supposed to traipse off to some island wedding - Fiji, Bali, Vanuatu....and of course everyne has to pay for airfares, accommodation, resort prices etc etc etc

Bah humbug!

Well spotted about the bottle!

Lovely shot Nathalie. Might have to get you to come work for me!

Best wishes to the couple!

I'm with Isabella... all that effort and money (and frustration, for what?!) for one day, actually not even 24 hours. This is one situation where I find that the combination of the old and new doesn't work, as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather put the money towards a house or retirement or something like that. I'm a Grinch/Scrooge. Oh, I'm with Sally as well. Good company, methinks! :-)

Perfect pic Nathalie!!!... it looks so romantic, near the sea, warmy colors... and waiiting her partner for entire life...

Elections? I choose this bride. She is lovely and your photograph of her is lovely. The beer is a nice addition. Ha ha.

I hope you get to see the Rose-Breasted Grosbeak that came to Brookville, Ohio yesterday. It is the first one I have seen since we moved here 44 years ago.

Isabella, I've read many comments along those lines, yes. Sad, eh?

I don't know the newlyweds, I just happened to be on the jetty when they came for the photo so I seized the opportunity

Imparfait Present, tu prends trop sur toi ! MDR
(c'est très charmant, n'empêche)

Peter yes, weddings are big business here too: It seems that girls are giving a lot of thought and energy to making this the "most beautiful day of their life" and getting everything 'right' (I mean, to their liking, from setting to flowers, dress (of course), fake tan, you name it.

Pab, y'a plus qu'à... nous, c'est fait.

Yes Sally, I'd forgotten that dreadful variation: the beach wedding in some exotic overseas location!

Paul, so that's what you do!

Z, yes Sally is good company, I can testify to that!

Beautiful photo. My wife and I were married 36 years ago and she wore a white mini skirt. Our wedding photos include one with here blue garter slipping down below the hem line ... We were married in a Catholic ceremony which includes a lot keeling. Before the wedding my brother wrote help on the soles of my shoes ... The church was small yet full of family and friends ... The total cost of wedding, reception, and honeymoon was a few hundred dollars ... My oldest daughter was married a few years back and did the most loving considerat thing. Her and her fiancée informed us one year in advance. We then were in a position to set aside money to pay for the wedding without borrowing. Although her wedding was elaborate, including a string quartet, the total cost was under the national average.

Dsole said...

wow, Nathalie, did you know her? or you just were walking by there and find this amazing photo?

hmmm... i'm not sure about the wedding, don't like the white dress, all the flowery stuff, beautiful but not for me... I think i'm not a wedding person!!

Excellent photo! Our wedding album "broke" a few years back, and the pages ended up in a box. We just got the binding repaired, and it now sits on a book shelf in the living room again. Not sure who those people in the photos are however :)

Now I know why couples put the wedding off for two years -- so they can pay for it. Once we'd decided we only waited a few months. The photographers took some photos from the gallery of the church. There is my dad with his hands behind his back and his fingers crossed.
It'll be 33 years next month!

I would love to have something similar for my own wedding but - alas! - in Russia you may not wed outdoors.

Just a few words about the French presidential elections as they were also referred to in the original text: A Swiss source indicated some 54 / 46 at 4 p.m.. (It seems that the final score will be close to 53 (52,7) for Sarko.) I put the info on my blog, but it was hardly read.

Congratulations ;-)

A delightful shot, Nathalie, but I can't help wondering how many of those who pontificate about governments "doing something" to reduce greenhouse emissions, are engaging in lifestyles involving the sorts of ostentatious spending referred to by previous posters, which are only possible because of the phenomenon of seemingly insatiable self indulgence? We not only cause grossly disproprtionate greenhouse [and other] gas emissions, but also benefit from the economic system which relies on wasteful destruction of non-renewable resources future generations would have found valuable.

As for the French Elections, this was the first time I've felt the Socialist candidate deserved to lose. Anyone who, in a desperate effort to change the voters' minds, uses the fear of rioters and violence in the streets if she doesn't win, is going down an unhealthy path.

On the other hand, nathalie, your photos are one of the few things these days which [partially] cheer me up.

Nathalie H.D. said...

Norman, your last words go straight to my heart. I know how hard it is to cheer you up, so I'm thrilled by your comment.

I can only agree with you on all counts regarding greenhouse emissions. The way we (generally) live is appalling in this regard. I haven't heard any of our two candidates make any firm statement regarding that unfortunately.

I haven't heard Segolene say anything along the lines you mention either (using the fear of rioters and violence in the streets if she doesn't win) but then maybe I was asleep, only woke up at 5 am this morning!

How pretty off that sunset.

You are all so unfair with this poor bride. The bootle of beer is not hers, it's definitely her friends' who is nicely arranging her dress...
The bride is definitely sipping some sort of champaign ersatz.

I don't have any professional wedding photos (26 years ago) because we got the proof sheet and never bothered to get any! A few family members took photos so we have some snaps.

My sister has some lovely photos, which is good, cos she eloped to Fiji and told everyone when she got back! Complete with photos.

Re Sarkozy/Royal - I heard the Sarkozy party rep interviewed on radio this morning. He said the Sydney vote was 60% for Sarkozy. He attributed this to mainly being young 'get up and go" people who have left France for wider opportunity and like the more pro-business, pro-American stance of Sarkozy.

I remember a thunder and lightning storm during our wedding ceremony, and I remember balloons with mylar strings getting caught in the power lines after the wedding. Took out power to half the town!
This is such a cool shot....I'll bet the bride would like a copy!

Sensational Shot!! If I was the bride, I'd be asking for a copy!! The best wedding photos are those that are candid! Especially when they come out like this one.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blogs!!

Gorgeous shot, Nathalie, and I always get a kick out of a bride in a gown with a bottle of beer. It's been a LONG time since my wedding, and I wore a simple, inexpensive dress. I think our whole wedding cost maybe $1000. Those were the days, eh?
