World peace, inner peace

If I finished my post yesterday by the words "Peace be with you" it could well be that I was inspired by the Dalai Lama, whom I'd heard speaking about peace that same afternoon.

The Dalai Lama was on a tour of Australia from 6-16 June, finishing in Sydney where two free talks were organised: one yesterday afternoon on "Peace through inner peace" and one this morning on "The power of compassion". Both took place at the Domain, a large park in the city. I went over on Friday afternoon. Despite the rain (not very hard but steady) a sea of umbrellas flocked to the scene. Unfortunately I'd left mine at home and after half an hour of standing in a growing puddle, the weather got the better of me and I left. Call me far from enlightened : the power of the mind was not strong enough to make me forget my wet and cold body ! I'm glad I went anyway - the words I heard found resonance in me: Peace in the world goes hand in hand with inner peace. The rain continued all day today.

Nice and clear photo. I guess you were right in the front.
Dalai Lama's teachings are very good.

I've heard him speak in the Twin Cities, and he is awesome. His message and his humor are wonderful! Good portrait; captures his personality!

You Sydneysiders are lucky and blessed.

The current Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso) is the 14th incarnation in the succession.
When he dies the next successor will be sent to Lhasa to be trained.
What if the Communist Chinese have decimated the Tibetan followers to the extent that this process can no longer be carried out.
They commenced their evil process in 1949 and who knows, the world may be a sadder place in the future.

Vive le Dalaï Lama !!

I have to confess this is a picture I took of a billboard announcing his Australia tour. On the day, with the rain and no umbrella, I didn't bring my camera. Too bad...

Very true words. I wish all people who heard Dalai Lama could remember his words for a long time.

How thrilling to get to hear the Dalai Lama!

I'm envious. To see and hear the Dalai Lama would be inspiring. And to be close enough to take such a great photo ... I hope your camera did not get wet.

I just read the comments and am glad you camera did not get wet.

I was about to ask how you were so lucky to get this close for this great photo! Clever to shoot the billboard instead. He's a very inspirational man!

Une filosofie à suivre.

I'd gone to Sydney intending to hear him, but these days I come in out of the rain even faster than you Nathalie. I've never been impressed by his intellectual content, but find his effect interesting in terms of understanding human nature. Equally interesting is how few of his admirers care to research Tibet's history pre 1949. But you'd expect this of me, Nathalie?

Oh yes I'd expect this of you Norman. I must admit I know very little (all right, nothing) about Tibetan history pre-1949.
Have you got time for a briefing?

Nathalie, I hope you remember what it was like to be in his 'presence'. I saw and heard Nelson Mandela speak in Sydney quite a long time ago...I'll never forget it...it was like a whole aura of goodness filled the space ( i think it was St Mary's Cathedral in the city) and hopefully all of us.

These days, Nathalie, I always have time for (as you put it) briefing; but having a long memory can cause despondency for the listeners. I'd appreciate seeing you again though before one of us "departs" the scene.

My busyness made me missed your posted about this peaceful Man 'HIS Dalai Lama' as everyone can see in my profile about what I quote from his teaching!
