Melbourne Cup!

Final clean-up before the crowds arrive: today is Melbourne Cup, Australia's most famous horse race. Even though the race takes place in the rival city of Melbourne, it's a major event in Sydney too. At lunch time, restaurants, clubs, bars and pubs will pack with punters eating and drinking in the wait for the big start at 3pm. Then all eyes will turn to the big screens and the whole city will come to a halt... until we have a winner and then it'll be time to drink some more, either to celebrate or to drown your sorrows !!!

Nice photo of one of the boutique hotels in the Rocks. I've not stayed there, but apparently it's a very good one. They keep their front door clean at any rate.

Excellent!
Grate way to express cup day in different angle (I meant, not the race it self).

Yes Olivier, at 3.00pm everything stops for the race all around the country, it's amazing. And you should see the crowd of girls in the pubs wearing incredible hats and expensive gowns betting, cheering and drinking. It is something!

Hi Nat,

doesn't this look curiously like most English pubs on Grand national day!
