Humanity and science

The other day at lunch time I was trying to take a picture of Science House in Gloucester Street (the old sandstone building you see in the background) when the men carrying out some roadwork next to it asked jokingly: "Aren't you going to take a photo of us too?" I turned around, aimed my camera at them and said "sure will". So these two spontaneously joined and posed with a big smile; the one on the left hesitated between showing the "stop" or "slow" side of his traffic sign, and then quickly settled for "slow". This is an easy happy snap but I love its deep humanity. An appropriate complement to science when you think of it...
PS - note the fluorescent shirts: orange or green, they are now compulsory for all staff working on roads or building sites. Is it the same where you live ?

rrGood shot Nathalie, love it. Excellent for a Monday morning: genuine smiles, beer bellies, "slow" yellow round sign, all this is so soooo Australian!

After a weekend of flowers, I suggest a week of workers: what about showing us each day different aspects of the Sydney working class ?!...

Super photo Nathalie, bravo.

I like both photos. The workers look delighted and are also delightful. People are often so pleased to be photographed and usually are willing and such good sports, as these two are.

Great, happy photo. Yes, the workers here wear fluorescent green and orange vests for their safety, also. I have a street worker shot I took in October but have not yet posted. Maybe I will soon...

I think all our guys wear orange. Sometimes I'm tempted to go get one for when I'm walking the windy Nelson roads with no sidewalks.

a photograph very sympathetic nerve (it veiled is funny I go a post on the same weekend topic; O). they is sympathetic when people challenge to you to be on the photograph. very good. In France also, people who work on the roads (or on the streets) wear wind-breakers like that.

I share your feelings, I really love it when people are friendly to a stranger's camera. In an ideal world this is the way it should be isn't it?

Good one Nathalie!

Cheers!

Great picture! The guys seem to have a good sense of humor about it all.

And yes, public service workers are required to wear those neon/reflective jackets.

Salut Cergie
